ECOPACK: SDR PACK AWARDED BY CONAI

Since 2014 CONAI, Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggio (the National Packaging Consortium) has been promoting the Contest for packaging ecodesign in the circular economy, initiated with the purpose of “collecting and promoting packaging solutions with low environmental impact placed on the market, fostering environment-related innovation content”. CONAI offers € 500,000 distributed among the winners of the Contest, proportionally to the ranking in the final classification.

From 2014 to 2021 the subjects submitted to the Contest by the consortia members have increased five-fold, numbering 326 cases in the latest edition. Of these, 185 were rewarded.

SDR PACK was a winner with three different solutions for having reduced the environmental impact of packaging. Let’s look at them together.

RECYCLABLE PAPER PACKAGING – THE LAUNCH OF THE 250g FORMAT FOR THE RETAIL DISTRIBUTION OF MARTINOROSSI FLOUR

To launch the 250g format of its line of pulse flours and polenta, dedicated to the retail channel, MartinoRossi chose recyclable paper packaging according to the Aticelca 501® Evaluation System.

A solution rewarded by CONAI as a virtuous example of an ecopack, which has a lower impact on the environment than the packaging more frequently used for the same application on the Italian market.

RECYCLABILITY AND DOWNSIZING - PAPER DOYPACK FOR FIGULÍ PIADATINA

Figulì has chosen to package Piadatina, an organic mini piadina that combines classical french fries in a bag with the traditional Italian piadina, in a paper doypack bag. Initially Piadatina was wrapped in a three-layered non-recyclable paper package. To improve the impact of the Figulì packaging we changed the structure of the packaging, suggesting a double paper film, obtaining a double benefit: in fact, the new package is recyclable with paper according to the Aticelca 501® Evaluation System and the raw material has been reduced by 21%, by eliminating one of the layers.

The new recyclable package is able to preserve the crunchiness and freshness of the product, guaranteeing the shelf life. The bags feature a tear mark, ideal for a ready-to-go product such as Piadatina, ready to enjoy anywhere once the package is open.
